Instagram Disabled My Account?! [What You Can Do To Make Sure You're Safe]

Dec 06, 2021

Freedom makers today. Ooh, I've got some maybe hard news to share because I've been doubling down so hard on my Instagram present and my content creation for the past year and a half. That it's really where I was focusing, right. I was spending a majority of my time and my business on that platform. And let's just say Monday morning, after my fire morning routine, I sat down at my desk ready to get to work only to find that Instagram had legitimately disabled my account.

So I'm still trying to figure out whether it got hack or like, I don't know. Okay. I'm not sure what happened there. And to be honest with you, Instagram doesn't really give you any, any help trying to figure out what went wrong. I'm going through a verification process, but let's just say any momentum that I had built up on the platform over the past year and a half, I feel like it just died and I didn't know what to do.

So I cried not going to lie. I cried. I felt. So discouraged. So just frustrated and upset. Like all of the momentum that I had been creating was just gone. And other reasons that I'm sharing this with you is because I feel like that that pain is normal. When you've put so much hard work and dedication into something, it's going to feel like that it's going to feel like shit.

But it's what I did from there. To flip and rewrite that story. That is a learning lesson that I hope all of you can take into your lives moving forward. Okay. So I'm feeling like shit I'm crying. I literally, my fiance came in the room and he's like, oh my God, like what happened? What's going on? And it's sad because that was one of my main ways to not only connect with my community.

But post my content that I worked so hard share these podcast episodes with you in a different level. And so it was really heartbreaking knowing that all of that content could potentially be gone forever and that's hard to deal with. And I still haven't heard back from them. So I'm not sure if I'll ever get it back, but what happened next was I sat down and I journal about this.

I believe that the universe is always on our side. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that things are happening for us not to us. So with that in mind, I said, okay, what is the reason that this could have been happening to me? What can I learn from this? So it doesn't happen again. And how can I grow from this and come back stronger with a crazy, amazing comeback story.

So I sat down and I realized. That I was putting all my eggs in one basket on Instagram. And maybe you're listening to this and you've been doing that too to where you've been so focused on one platform. You're not sending your content out for more people or engaging in creating community on these different platforms.

Now I'm not saying you've got to get, get like overwhelmed and start every single platform under the sun, but you should diversify Metta owns Facebook and Instagram. Okay. So if you're only using those two platforms and one of your accounts in the accounts goes down like minded, that means your other one could be at risk too.

So if you're only using Facebook and Instagram, I recommend that you diversify. So for me, this was a learning lesson to not put all my eggs in one basket and to get strategies going on different platforms outside of Metta, just in case something like this were to happen again. And it's not going to like greatly affect my business.

And it taught me the importance of making traffic that exists in the world, traffic that I own meaning it's on my email list. Meaning I have ways to connect with these people. If my Instagram goes down, I mean, I had thousands of people following me there and a very, very engaged community. And so for me, it feels like a part of me was lost to be honest.

And I'm not sure that I'll ever be able to connect with all of those people again, which is so sad for me. So it was a learning lesson. And so I'm sharing this with you because I want you to learn from it too. Not just to be more careful with Instagram, change your passwords and watch what you post like and comment, but.

To diversify to be omnipresent in this cyber world that we live in, because unfortunately these platforms are out of our control and Facebook, Metta, Instagram, they can choose to pull your account at any fucking time and yeah, it can kill your momentum and it sucks, but it's how you come back. That's the most important thing.

Okay. So what I've decided to do. Start turning to LinkedIn and Pinterest, I'm already creating the content. So I might as well be posting it on every platform and engage on every platform and build up a community. Just so it's there because my people are all on these different platforms. I might as well be showing up there on the same way that I'm showing up on this podcast and on Instagram, right.

There's no reason not to because you're already putting in the work. So with that being said, I've doubled down on LinkedIn. I'm diving in really strong there, and I'm focusing on the existing audiences that I have through my newsletter and through my Facebook group and my Facebook community and doing it in a way that's not going to make Facebook, try to ban me thinking that it's associated with my Instagram account.

So you guys, I'm not sure if, when, how, whatever, I'm not sure if my Instagram account is going to come back to be honest, but. I'm going to give it a few weeks and if it doesn't, I'll rebuild, I've done it once I can do it again. So if you are listening to previous episodes and you're like, what the heck? I keep typing in Jamie?

And she's like a ghost now. Yeah. I disappeared for a little while, but I'll be back. Meanwhile, I'm going to use this time to effectively create a strategy that's working on Linkedin. And I'm going to show up in a whole new way. So you guys, if you're going through something like this, if you've gone through this in the past, or if you just are like, oh, oh my God, I'm freaked out now.

I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket either. I encourage you to look into these other platforms because you do not want to be posting consistently for a year and a half only to have your platform removed and be like, what do I do? Because I felt like a lost puppy on Monday when that happened, I was like, I don't know.

I don't know what to do. I don't know where to show up. I don't know. What am I doing today? I don't know. So I hope that that doesn't happen to you, but I hope that you learned something from this in the sense of not just diversifying your content and where you post it, but also that you learn. It's how you perceive these things that happen to you. And when you start to understand that the world and the universe is working for you, not against you, you'll start to realize that, Hey, I could have hit 20,000 followers and have this happen. I could have lost another year's worth of content, but instead the universe gave me time a week, maybe two weeks to start an entirely new platform that will be there for me.

If anything happens like this again. So you guys, when life gives you lemons make lemonade, please. That's what I'm doing. That's what I'm telling myself. And it feels pretty good at this time. So freedom makers, I would normally say, let me know how you like this episode and tag me on Instagram, but we all know right now that's not really possible.

So if you're over on LinkedIn, find. Search Jamie Kullman, J a M I E K U L L M a N. I will be going live in there and my Facebook group, the free to make her tribe on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9:00 AM. Pacific standard time and noon on Eastern standard time. So if you guys love listening to this, but you're like, Ooh, I need more Jamie in my life.

I'm going to do a specialized trainings for you three times a week. This is me committing to that. So. If that sounds like your jam and something that you'd be interested in joining the free to make your tribe, find me on LinkedIn. And we will connect there.
