29: Alive, Present, Grateful

Today we’re going to chat about a daily gratitude practice and just taking a step back to constantly feel grateful for the things we have while visualizing the future and what we’re working towards.

I also want to give you guys an update on what’s going on in my world because there are tons of exciting things coming up and we're also going to chat about why this episode is titled with these three little words: Alive, Present and Grateful.


I used to get so wrapped up in life and get caught up in the moment, where I never really stopped to appreciate what was unfolding right in front of me. I’ve since put a gratitude practice into place and it’s made me much more appreciative of the things happening in my life, both big and small. This appreciation is opening up new doors for me and really deepening my excitement for what’s to come and helping me visualize the future while enjoying the journey every step of the way.

Instead of feeling a sense of lack, it’s about appreciating the journey and the progress we’re experiencing every day.

By taking a step back every day and really feeling the gratitude for what you already have - you’re opening yourself up for more.

Just take a moment to think of something you can feel grateful for. It can be something in the present or the past. A feeling, a moment, a win or even just the birds chirping outside your window, your dog running on the beach or a look from a loved one.

You have to train your brain to appreciate these little things.

Focus on a few moments in your life and really feel like you’re back in the moment. Sometimes when we’re around something a lot we start to take things for granted. But if we can step back and put ourselves into a state of gratitude we start to develop a new appreciation for the things that have happened to us and are currently unfolding right now.

Try to think of 3 things every day, even just for a moment.

Stop, feel it and appreciate it.

I’m sure you’ve already heard to have a gratitude journal and practice being grateful, but how do you really develop those habits that are going to let you feel this gratitude on a deeper level?

Let’s talk about 6 ways to experience a deep level of gratitude in your life:

  1. Eliminate Gossip
  2. Eliminate Complaints
  3. Give back
  4. Talk about the beautiful things unfolding in your life
  5. Deepen relationships
  6. Learn from influential people

When you’re grateful for all of the things unfolding in your life it opens up room for more things to manifest and happen in your life. Think about it, if you don’t appreciate what you already have and show gratitude, it makes it difficult for more good to come your way. But if you’re constantly in this state of appreciation, it opens up the gates for more good things to come your way.

I was listening to The Brendon Show and he said something that hit me really hard. He was talking about how you want other people to think about you and if they could describe you in only 3 words, what words would you want them to think of? What words could you use to describe your life that would make you feel like you’re living life to its fullest?

I want to start by sharing my 3 words with you, why I chose them and what they mean for my life.

My 3 words are alive, present and grateful. I know that when I feel alive I feel like I’m at the top of the world and completely present in the moment, all while being grateful for all of the blessings and experiences unfolding in front of me. If I can live my life in a state of being alive, present and grateful I would be living life to its fullest.

What I’ve done is created alerts in my phone to go off throughout the day reminding me of these words so I can stop and really think about whether or not I’m spending the day focused on these feelings.

I wanted to give you guys an update since starting this practice - I’ve felt more connected to the present moment and the experiences that come with it. It’s given me a few moments a day to really appreciate where I’m at and the wins (big or small) that have been unfolding.

Now if I’m doing something that doesn’t make me feel alive, present and grateful I’ve started to do less of it - and spend more time on the things that bring these feelings into my life.

Earlier this week my partner and I were doing our maternity photoshoot and throughout the entire evening, I kept repeating these words in my head. Trying to stay completely present in the moment, and so grateful to have such a wonderful partner to share these moments with.

At the moment of sunset, he got down on his knee and popped the question. I’ve never felt so alive, present, and grateful than I did at that moment. I was up for hours that night just replaying those special moments in my head so I would never forget them. It can be the big moments or the small moments, but it’s important to keep your three little words in mind throughout your day so you can continue to feel this sense of fulfillment in your life.

Now I take time to reflect back on the small moments, the small wins, whenever possible. It helps me feel progress and boosts my happiness immensely. Combine this with those 6 tricks to deepening that gratitude and you’re set up for a sense of joy that is unmatched.
